Increase NIH Funding FY2013

The President recently released his Fiscal Year 2013 budget proposal. This budget flat funded the National Institutes of Health (NIH) at the same level as Fiscal Year 2012. The budget is now under consideration by Congress. In order to ensure that the NIH continues to receive support, the biomedical imaging research community needs to make the case to Congress that increased funding for the NIH is necessary even in the current budgetary environment.

Your advocacy efforts do make a difference – so please make sure to contact your Members of Congress in support of the NIH. To find the contact information for your Congressman, please go to www.house.gov and enter your zip code. In addition, please forward this message to your friends and colleagues and ask them to also contact their Members of Congress. The more voices who speak up for research, the better!

When you contact your Member of Congress, please ask them to sign onto the Markey-Bilbray letter in support of the NIH. Congressmen Ed Markey (D-Massachusetts) and Congressman Brian Bilbray (R-California) are sending this letter to the House Appropriations Committee to ask them to fund the NIH at at least $32 billion in Fiscal Year 2013. As of Tuesday, March 6th, the following Members of Congress have signed onto the Markey-Bilbray letter:
