IETF awards $50,000 to Arnulfo Quesada and Adrian Handforth for their research on T-type Calcium Channel Research (2006)
Arnulfo Quesada, PhD, and Adrian Handforth, MD, Department of Research, Veterans Affairs Greater Los Angeles Healthcare System, Research and Neurology departments received a $50,000 grant award for the research proposal entitled “The Requirement of the T-type Calcium Channel Cav3.1 for Tremor Expression in Two Rodent Models of Essential Tremor.”
This research is based upon previous research showing that the cerebellum, the part of the brain that uses information from the senses to control movement and coordination, plays a major role in the occurrence of ET. A problem in the process of information transfer from the senses to the cerebellum through another part of the brain called the inferior olive is one possible cause of ET.
This work began April 2006 and a report on progress is forthcoming.
