Tremor Gram – October 2017
IETF Joins Movement Disorders Coalition
The International Essential Tremor Foundation has recently partnered with the Movement Disorders Policy Coalition (MDPC). Through the help of other neurological organizations and nonprofits, we will advocate at the federal, state, and health plan levels for key health reforms that increase access and personalized care for patients with movement disorders.
Movement disorders impact millions of people across the United States and often burden patients with high medical costs. Friends and family of these patients provide extensive and uncompensated care, even while they face health problems and expenses of their own. Fortunately, innovative therapies now offer hope for patients, their families, and society at large that debilitating movement disorders can one day be cured.
By producing educational materials, hosting events, and leading direct advocacy efforts, MDPC will support patient-centric healthcare delivery models and the physician-patient relationship. Through the legislative and regulatory processes, MDPC will advocate for reforms to utilization management practices that block patient access, including:
- Prior authorizations
- Specialty-tiers with high co-insurance
- Non-medical switching

The project will also include the production of one 3-5 minute educational segment produced as a standalone short-form documentary for distribution to public television stations nationwide. The segment will broadcast this fall at each public television station’s discretion, with an estimated viewership and reach of 60 million households.Along with the documentary profile, Informed will provide the production of a one-minute educational commercial segment used for network distribution. The segment will be broadcast once at each public television station’s discretion, with an estimated viewership and reach of 60 million households.
