Elisabeth Shabi

In her essay, Shabi recounts the many roles she plays in life such as being a pianist with shaky hands. When she is stressed and overwhelmed, Shabi resorts to a comforting act. “When life is rolling over me, filling my heart with worries, and I look down and see my hands shaking, I sing. Three simple words sung by everyone’s old heroes: “Let it Be.” When it seemed as though tremor was just one more disaster heaped upon an already unmanageable pile of stress, I had to learn to accept it instead as a reason to take a deep breath and let the heartaches go.”

She also closes with this creed. “Just when the caterpillar thought the world was over, it became a butterfly. I know now that I am the caterpillar, and I must take comfort in knowing that one day I will become the butterfly.”
